Breakout Sessions

Keynote Speaker - Crystal Magers
Stress and trauma are a hidden epidemic in the US with grave effects on health, learning, social-emotional development and brain development.  Fortunately, research suggests that caregivers can ease the negative effects of stress on children. Children living with stress and trauma walk through our doors each Sunday/Wednesday.  We generally know them by their behavioral problems. We will explore the brain research behind this epidemic and how we can best accommodate the children we serve.

Building Community in our Volunteer Teams (Leadership session) - Teisha Sutterfield
In this Leadership breakout session we will go over things that will better you as a leader on how to lead a great team. We’ll talk about the 4 stages of Leadership and how you can mold that to what works for you as a leader. I’ll leave time at the end to network.

Interactive Nursery Rhymes and Fingerplays for Nursery volunteers - Pat Livingston

Conscious Discipline - Sarah Fox
Conscious Discipline is a brain-based, trauma-informed framework that helps teachers “integrate social-emotional learning, discipline and self-regulation so they spend less time policing behavior and more time teaching vital life skills.”  This will be an overview of what I have learned implementing it in my public school pre-k classroom over the last six years. CD makes you look at the inside of yourself and the kids you’re teaching (or parenting) and in turn measure your reaction to behaviors.  It’s a game-changer for sure!

Preschool Lesson Preparation - Tess Bumpers
Preschoolers have lots of energy and little attention spans.  This breakout session will give the teacher tips on how to channel that energy into the learning process.  We’ll explore how to use the curriculum and additional resources to prepare and present Bible truth in an interesting, fun and loving environment.

Incorporating Music into the Preschool Classroom - Melody Champione
In this session we will examine the ways to use music as a teaching device in the preschool classroom. We will look at Praise and Worship, Biblical Truths and Teachings, Creativity and Movement Exploration. I will also allow time for questions.

Lesson Preparedness (repeat session from 2018) - Deb Laws
This breakout session promises to help Elementary leaders to be more prepared in leading children to Jesus.  During this session you will learn how to balance your schedule, gather materials to create an unforgettable experience, and determine the right tools to use to present your dynamic lesson.

Classroom Management - Tracy Livingston
Do you feel like you lack control in the classroom—like the kids just don’t pay attention? This session will provide you with some basic tried and true skills that you can begin applying immediately to better manage the classroom and make your time with the students more productive and positive.
